Playwriting Workshop

For age groups 5-12 and 13-adult.

In the interest of community education, the goal is to present a class to those interested in learning about or honing their playwriting skills. I developed the workshop to take place over a seven week period. Through various free-writing exercises and group discussion, each participant will write two short plays (12-18 pages) throughout the course of the workshop, to be read through and critiqued by workshop participants. Each participant will then choose one of their short plays to refine and be performed in a workshop showcase at the end of week seven. The workshop performance will be open to the public, providing a very unique performance experience for both the students and the community, showcasing numerous short plays by local playwrights in one evening.

Why Join The Workshop?

  • Developing playwriting skills is a helpful tool for any writer
  • Budding playwrights get to hear and see their work come to life
  • Allows for valuable critique and interaction
  • Shows the process of transforming ideas into stage productions

The Workshop Showcase Performance provides the chance for the participants to see and hear their play, allowing them to understand stage directions, flow, set changes, dialogue, movement, and, most of all, experience audience reaction to their work.
