Louisa is a professional server working at the Grey Duck, a local watering hole. Through a series of comedic and unfortunate events, including bar fights, plugged toilets, looking for new love, a stalking ex-boyfriend, groping customers, and a chicken wing incident, Lou is ready to hang up the apron. It’s time for a job change—a life change!
She lands a day job at small marketing firm, unfortunately through the help of her stalking ex-boyfriend. Immediately, Lou struggles with the structure that the stereotypical 9 to 5 “stable job” is built around:
GREAT, GREAT, GREAT
STARING AT MY SCREEN
SURFING THE WEB
TRYING NOT TO BE SEEN
GREAT, GREAT, GREAT
SPACING OUT FOR HOURS ON END
COUNTING THE HOURS—MINUTES
THE WORK AT BEST A BLAND BLEND
SEE, I’M DOING GREAT, GREAT, GREAT
IN MY FORTY HOUR A WEEK HEAVEN
I’M TRULY, HONESTLY HAPPY
PLEASE JUST BUY WHAT I’M SELLING
Ms. Kuhl, Lou’s boss, tries to “help” Lou conform to her office standards. This help involves passive-aggressive and sociopathic behavior, leaving Lou even more confused about her future and deeply concerned that her boss is crazy. Ms. Kuhl is not willing to give up on Louisa so easily.
The gauntlet has been thrown. The fight has begun. Will Lou’s integrity, creativity, and poor fashion sense survive? Or will Ms. Kuhl crush another soul into her structured submission?
